Activity
Have the students stand in a circle. Teacher keeps a beat in some way while singing the song. The student simultaneously copy the teacher’s movement. On the 2nd repetition, the teacher changes their movements to keep a beat in another way.
Take turns going around the circle with each student creating a new movement for the group to simultaneously copy.
Adaptation
Provide a “safety dance” that students can choose if they are unable or unsure of creating their own. This still allows assessment of beat keeping skill.
