Activity
Give every student a beanbag to balance on the back of their hand (to represent an engagement ring). While singing the song, smoothly flow the beanbag around being careful not to drop it.
Students like to show off that they can balance a beanbag on one finger. Do this on the second repetition.
Allow students to suggest other places to put the beanbag and fit this into the song. Are there other types of jewelry that would make sense for these body parts? How can you make it rhyme with the song (Eyebrow rhymes with “engagement ring, now”)
Other body parts could be:
- Ear (ear ring)
- Nose
- Eyebrow
- Shoulder (boulder?)
- Knee
- Elbow (bracelet)
- Foot
- Back
- Neck (necklace)
A note:
Kids are going to put beanbags on their heads. Why fight it!?Clean the beanbags or separate beanbags of questionable cleanliness from the others after the activity.
Assessment Opportunity:
When collecting the beanbags, ask the students to echo a minor tonal pattern. My students like to drop them from their heads into a bin.
Minor Tonal patterns to use:
- Mi -la
- Do-ti-la
- La-si-La
- Mi-do-la
